HAVE FUN, GET HEALTHY!
Students, family members, and community members are all invited to participate. Two dozen community based organizations and government agencies will be on site to assist you in signing up for Medi-Cal and Cal Fresh (food stamps), to offer health screenings - STDs, HIV, blood sugar, blood pressure and more, education on how eat and live healthier, healthy cooking demos, recipes, samples and how to get moving.
Music! Entertainment! Food! Fun!
*Why do we need a National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day?
- About 1 in 4 (26%) of all new HIV infections are among youth ages 13 to 24 years.
- About 60% of youth with HIV do not know they are infected and don’t receive treatment. This puts them at risk for sickness and early death. These youth can also unknowingly pass HIV to others.
Our Principal, Mr. Brandon Cohen, will serve as a positive role model by being the first person at the festival to take an HIV test.
Both the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the County of Los Angeles have written resolutions commemorating National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.
