Silver Lake's Cultural Heritage : The Music Box Steps and Everybody's California.

California and Origin  This December 7th event was held at the Micheltorena Street Elementary School just north of Sunset Boulevard, where teachers, parents and students came together to learn about California's history and its Chicano heritage. This was a project put on by UCLA Chicano Studies Department professor Dr. Octavio Pescador and some of his students from his Paulo Freire Course. Freire was an Argentine educator.

Native Garden Installed at Silver Lake's Meadow

THE NEW SILVER LAKE MEADOW NATIVE GARDEN IS IN!
 
Thanks to our new group of neighborhood volunteers, a small army of Marshall High students, and lots of donuts, we got all of the plants in the ground last Saturday. A combination of existing irrigation, hand watering, and (we hope!) a wet winter, will get them through this first year.
