Preparations are underway to celebrate Silver Lake (and Austria)'s own modernist architect Richard Neutra and his son, Silver Lake architect Dion Neutra. 2017 represents the 25th anniversary of the dedication of Silver Lake’s Neutra Place! 1992 marked the 100th anniversary of Richard Neutra’s birth.
Twenty-five years ago, then Councilman Michael Woo and Dion Neutra presided over the unveiling of the new sign, renaming Neutra Place. (Mr. Woo has since become Dean of the College of Environmental Design at Cal Poly Pomona, which now owns and operates the Neutra VDL II house across from The Meadow in Silver Lake).
It's time to celebrate again with a neighborhood block party!
Saturday, October 7th, Noon - 2 PM
Residents, especially Neutra owners are encouraged join in! They propose a refreshment table set up at the cul-de-sac with music and refreshments.
A follow-up party is also planned for the city at large
Monday, October 9 from 6:00 to 9:00p
Dion’s 91st is being celebrated the next day with a big party at the NEUTRA INSTITUTE MUSEUM OF SILVER LAKE, 2379 Glendale Blvd. Join Neutra there as well!
Tuesday, October 10th, 6:00 to 10:00p.
** Sponsors are being sought for support for both these events as well as the Institute’s Art Wall project. This would encourage would-be muralists to display their talents on the museum’s blank North wall, facing the Rockaway Records parking lot next door! The NEUTRA INSTITUTE MUSEUM OF SILVER LAKE hosts community activities and Art Shows. Check it out at neutra.org. **
Contact Dion Neutra at Dion@Neutra.org for details on any of this.
