The topic of conversation lately is about "DETOX". Don't let this word scare you! Detoxing and purification, if done correctly, can be a pleasant experience and worth your while. It can enable you to kick start your body into achieving your goals.

We here at Jesse Jory Acupuncture + Functional Medicine are facilitating another integrated Yoga and Acupuncture experience aimed at purification and detoxification of the body and the organs which are involved in the process.

Saturday, February 10, 3:00 to 5:30 PM

Still Yoga, 2395 Glendale Blvd 90039

There is a lot of misunderstanding about what a detox is and how to safely engage in a program. I like to explain how I understand detoxification to my patients so they can feel good about it.

Detoxification is what your body does naturally to neutralize, transform or eliminate unwanted toxins. It is a primary function of the body, constantly working and interacting with all the other complicated functions of the body. When I am explaining detoxification, I stress that it is about improving and optimizing the function of your body’s own detoxification systems. This is where the integration of both Yoga and Acupuncture can be helpful. In addition, by eating a specialized diet and supplements we can decrease the amount of toxins we put into our bodies while at the same time support our body’s detoxification and elimination systems with the nutrients it needs to function properly.

Culturally we are constantly aware of our external cleanliness. We sanitize our hands, brush our teeth daily, bathe and shower daily and we like to look and smell clean because it makes us look and feel good. Similarly, I see detoxification as internal cleansing. The primary issue can be identifying when our internal cleansing mechanisms are not functioning well.

Lethargy, acne, weight gain, cloudy mind, and trouble sleeping are some signs that the body maybe in need of a purification or detoxification.  Unlike other parts of our body it is very hard to know how well our liver or other organs maybe working.   Our liver is the main detoxification organ. Apart from synthesizing and secreting bile, the liver acts as a filter for toxins and bacteria in the blood and chemically neutralizes toxins, converting them into substances that can be eliminated by the kidneys.

Detoxification is a key component of our body’s functioning. Most of the molecules made by our bodies on an daily basis, are intended to eliminate waste products. We need hundreds of cells, enzymes, vitamins and other molecules to help rid the body of unwanted waste products and chemicals. Our organ systems are required to manufacture these molecules and cells to help take the good from what we ingest and eliminate the unwanted. The bulk of the work is done by the liver and the intestinal tract; however,  the kidneys, lungs, lymphatic system and skin are also involved in this complex detoxification system.

The purpose of a detoxification program is primarily to support these organs of elimination so that toxins present in the body can be metabolized and excreted. The acupuncture prescriptions we choose for the detoxification are designed to support these organs so they can do their specific job more efficiently.  We hope you will join us for our community based program YogaPoke or schedule a private in office visit at http://www.jessejoryacupuncture.com Jesse Jory Acupuncture is located at 2526 Hyperion Ave Suite 3 Los Angeles, CA 90027.
