Los Angeles has the highest count of chronically homeless individuals in the United States.

Silver Lake Love is a local grassroots nonprofit organization that addresses the humanity behind homelessness in Los Angeles. Silver Lake Love attempts to address the often overlooked emotional and morale causes of homelessness that often deal with love, acceptance, dignity, respect, and the right to be recognized as a fellow human being and citizen of the earth. They aim to combat the structural dehumanization of the homeless. They work to help homeless individuals feel seen, feel heard, and feel cared for. They believe our mission compliments the many other organizations in Los Angeles that offer solutions related to housing, substance abuse treatment, mental health services, temporary shelters, and job training. They believe that the most productive methods of combating the homelessness problem is a multi-faceted approach and they are committed to doing their part.

Silver Lake Love is founded on the principle that everyone matters. They pose the question: At what point does the dehumanization of the homeless impact the vicious cycle of homelessness? The lack of respect and recognition of those without homes have the power to breed much anger and bitterness, which forms a snowballing effect of further promoting the negative energies that lead to chronic homelessness.

Everyone matters.

Here is their report and a simple way to help, even if it's sharing clothing you don't use. They've been known to sew and re-purpose clothes to make them into custom-made pieces.

Make Someone Happy Hour, Hope Rediscovered, Rebuilding Communities

The past year has been an exciting time filled with new challenges, solutions and friends new and old who have joined us to battle homelessness in Los Angeles and across the country. Silver Lake Love thanks you for your donations, contributions and hard work! Here are some exciting new developments.

  • We've teamed up with local Nabisco distributors to provide healthy and delicious snacks at Make Someone Happy Hour. Learn More.
  • Over 100 pairs of new shoes from local LA shoe store distributed to homeless veterans and individuals in LA. Learn More.
  • Help with rebuilding Rockport, TX after Hurricane Harvey. Learn More.

Everyday we are presented with the choice of doing it the easy way or doing the right thing. The right thing is taking the time to listen to someone who is down on their luck. It is smiling at someone who hasn't seen one in weeks. It is the willingness to believe that an act of kindness can inspire them to turn their life around. We are so excited every morning to inspire people to do the right thing and help the most vulnerable people in our society find hope, promise, and light!

We give individuals expressions of care and love but we are not alone, we have you to thank! We thank you from the bottom of our heart for your continued support and generosity!

Please consider a clothing (socks needed most) or monetary donation to Silver Lake Love, (fully deductible), or visit our events page to see when our next event is, we'd love to have you!
