Dear Micheltorena Gardeners, interested Silver Lake residents & nearby neighbors, and Silver Lake Neighborhood Council partners:
The following [link is at end of article] is an open source document designed to jumpstart the conversation about our upcoming garden summit for the area, taking place the weekend of Sep 21-22. Please add ideas / share document link with others / comment at will :) Together we’ll get this conversation started and meet up soon to go deeper and put it all together. Thanks so much! charlie, amy, leonardo, frances, dale, helen, linda, martha, abbe, nancy, james & all of the Micheltorena Garden Team!

IDEAS
CELEBRATE: three years of micheltorena community and school garden with summit kick-off garden and block party.
COMMUNICATE: host ‘circles’ of conversation across the neighborhood on various topics including regional conversations that focus on garden building with special focus on region 2 and south/ sunset and on / around Hoover. -------- circles (non-heirarchical speak-outs) where we learn from one another share ideas and synergize and strategize, build relationships that we carry forward into direct action in our community.
-------- topics for circles (the more the merrier) (open forum circles list -- we’ll scheduel as many as we can!) : -- rights for mother earth in silver lake and beyond: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_the_Rights_of_Mother_Earth -- how to start a school garden?
Step by step with micheltorena school and community garden initial creative team

-- region 2 community garden -- where/ when/ who/ how?
--region 3 community garden -- where/ when / who / how?
-- region 5 community garden -- where/ when / who / how?
-- region 6 community garden -- where/ when/ who/ how?
-- region 7 community garden -- where/ when/ who / how?
-- stakeholder status for trees/ a silver lake 100 biggest trees registry
-- horizontal process / running a community garden without ‘leaders’ ‘bosses’ and ‘plots’ ie how NOT to replicate the disfunction we find in the culture surrounding our garden spaces and build & model a different kind of world.
-- re-envisioning the public space -- parkways, highways, roads, streets -- food production zones?
