THE NEW SILVER LAKE MEADOW NATIVE GARDEN IS IN!
Thanks to our new group of neighborhood volunteers, a small army of Marshall High students, and lots of donuts, we got all of the plants in the ground last Saturday. A combination of existing irrigation, hand watering, and (we hope!) a wet winter, will get them through this first year.
Many thanks to Lisa Novick, Margaret Oakley and Andrew Chaves of the Theodore Payne Foundation; Tom Gibson, Mark Jackson and Andrea Epstein of the Dept. of Rec. and Parks; Marshall High’s Jay Benoit; and the Silverlake Neighborhood Council for making it happen. Also, a very special thanks to Silver Lake Meadow gardener John Garcia, whose ongoing help and guidance are invaluable.
Our first monthly maintenance workshop will be Sat., Dec. 15, led by Andrew of Theodore Payne. We’ll be learning more about the plants and how to care for them going forward. It’s a great way to learn more about natives while helping your new community garden grow! For those interested in getting involved, please e-mail
