The Silver Lake Reservoir, one of Los Angeles’ open drinking water reservoirs, is located 5 miles northwest of Downtown. Built in 1907, the reservoir is currently used as storage for potable water and serves as a unique physical and visual resource for the entire Silver Lake neighborhood. A collaborative effort between Council District 4, Council District 13 and Mia Lehrer + Associates, the Master Plan for the Silver Lake Reservoir proposed a long range vision to expand the publicly accessible areas around the reservoir for recreational uses and beautification purposes. Building on an existing Recreation Center and Dog Park, the improvements allow the public to access a 2.2 mile walking/jogging loop safely buffered from vehicular traffic and a 3-acre meadow surrounded by native planting, perfect for picnicking, passive recreational activities and lounging with friends and family.
