Profile Information

A little about me
I'm a lifelong Angeleno, born and raised in Elysian Valley. Silver Lake is part of my 'hood and it is home to me.

I'm a tour operator and guide, owning MrLA Tours, offering tours of the multicultural, multiethnic nature of Los Angeles.
What makes Silver Lake special is
the unique mix of geography (the hills, Silver Lake Reservoir, the city steps), , the people (writers, actors, activists, immigrants, eroding but still-blue collar presence in Baja Silver Lake), one-of-a-kind restaurants. There is no other place like Silver Lake.,
I found the Silver Lake Star because:
I met Betsy Hall, the publisher, at a farmers market near Silver Lake.
My favorite Silver Lake celebrity
A toss-up between Tony, owner of Michelangelo's, and Ana Rosa Krotser, Empress of Silver Lake.
My Silver Lake hangout
Too many to narrow down to just one.
My place for music in Silver Lake
Silver Lake Lounge
My Silver Lake style comes from
coming into fashion before there was a Silver Lake Style.
My other website is

Here Today, Gone Tamale: In Silver Lake and Environs!

As anyone who's lived here for more than 3 months knows, tamales in Los Angeles are as common as actors answering casting calls at Paramount Studios. You can't say you've eaten Mexican food in Los Angeles without eating a tamale. True Angeleno hipsters call it by it's Spanish name: "tamal", which itself came from Nahuatl, the Aztec language that also gave us such delicious foods as cocoa, tomato and avocado, all part of the Mexican and Latino food scene in Los Angeles. But, you don't have to…
