The definition of a group, is when individuals start having conflict. Expectations become disappointments, discussions turn into disagreements. I learned this from Clinical Psychologist, Gaithri Fernando, PhD.
SO, WHAT TO DO?!!!
Enter Starhawk, who is offering a COMPLIMENTARY talk about how to get the work done when it takes a village. Considering all the group time we spend in this season, and the best plans for the coming year involve others...

How do we build consensus with others? How can we work more constructively in groups?
It happens all the time—a group of well-intentioned neighbors come together, fired up with passion to create change. We come together and begin with huge inspiration and enthusiasm—and then, with time passing, become trapped in the mire of conflict. How do we work with those ‘irritating’, ‘self-righteous’, ‘controlling’, ‘fluff-brained’, ‘clueless’ folks who are – in reality – our dear friends, neighbors and allies?
We can do better.
Join us for a Consensus, Collaboration, and Conflict Resolution training in Silver Lake with the author of the Empowerment Manual — global activist, internationally acclaimed author, and world-renowned animist Starhawk. In her twelfth book, The Empowerment Manual: A Guide for Collaborative Groups, Starhawk draws upon four decades of experience in circles and collectives to show us how to foster connection, clear communication, and positive power in ourselves and our groups.
Starhawk has worked for years in permaculture, social justice, and alternative movements to promote equality, ecology and sustainability…and along the way she has become an expert in group process. She works internationally as a trainer in nonviolence and direct action, and as an activist within the peace movement, women’s movement, environmental movement and anti-globalization movement. She travels and teaches widely in North America, Europe and the Middle East, giving lectures and workshops.
All are invited to attend – friends, neighbors, colleagues, Neighborhood Council volunteers from across LA, Neighborhood Watch Groups, City Agencies, non-profits, theatre groups, art collectives, PTOs, PTAs, Business Associations, and more – all will find valuable skills for moving their own groups and neighborhoods forward.
