Political "Fight" for CD13 seat

My son and others are literally fighting for political change elsewhere in the world.

Locally, our confrontations take on a different flare. I saw a Greuel lawn sign spiked into the ground closely in front of a Garcetti placard. And Mitch O'Farrell signs have been stolen from my front lawn and others'.

An invitation I received from Luis Lopez and Hans Johnson for a fundraiser for Mitch includes a quote from the L. A. Times endorsement and, "A proud and well-qualified…

A new meaning to geek squad

I remember the first car my parents' bought. It was a VW. They were so rare, VolksWagon drivers used to waive at each other on the road. And remember Herbie, The Love Bug?

When I purchased my first vehicle, it was a beetle too. It brought my future husband and me together. And separated a lot of my paychecks from me. That's ANOTHER story.…

KPCC: Finalists for LA City Council's 13th District get backing from former opponents

The two men hoping to succeed Councilman Eric Garcetti in the Thirteenth District are picking up support from their former opponents in the March 5 primary.

Mitch O'Farrell, a former Garcetti aide, placed first in the primary with 18 percent of the vote. He was endorsed Monday by two former candidates — Sam Kbushyan and Josh Post. Kbushyan finished third in the race thanks to strong support from the district's Armenian community.

a message from Mitch O'Farrell's supporters

Mitch O'Farrell is running for City Councilmember in District 13. About half of Silver Lake is in CD13I received this from his campaign.

...We’re proud Mitch O’Farrell was the Winner in the primary—and now we’re ready to walk, talk, and work with our neighbors and businesses to keep our lead.

But our opposition is going all-out to defeat us.  They’re prepared to spend over $1.5 million against Mitch and…

Silver Lake Real Estate is Changing

Everyone can see how Silver Lake has changed over the last ten years, and now behind the scenes, developers are buying up every apartment building they can find. The neighborhood that was once the next big thing in Los Angeles real estate is now the world's main attraction.

I'm in a unique position because I work for a developer, but I came to the business trying to buy my first home and got locked out. Like many people I meet, income property is the only affordable way to own one's…

Living Green in Los Angeles (Part 1)

This will be the first in a series of posts about my experiences, travels and even occasional travails as an Angeleno trying to keep it green.

KPCC asks: Silver Lake residents, have you ever been priced out of a neighborhood?

L.A. neighborhoods are changing: Demographics shift. Businesses open and shutter. Residents are forced to adapt and, sometimes, move.

In February, KPCC's Crawford Family Forum went to Highland Park—a rapidly changing neighborhood—to hold an an off-site conversation focused on "Changing Neighborhoods: Tradition, Transition, and Gentrification in L.A." (Click the …
